Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a artist who was born in Newark, New Jersey on the 9th of August, 1963. Their parents include gospel singers Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick sings as well. In her early years, she sang in her New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. At the age of she was fifteen, Houston was singing professionally with backing vocals alongside her mother in Chaka Khan's 1978 song Im Every Woman. Later, she provided background vocals for Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls as well as her mom. Her first gig was as a featured vocalist for the funk group from New York, Material and it was the high quality of her singing with them that attracted the attention of several major record labels, including Arista which she signed with in 1983 and where she stayed for the rest of her professional career. Her debut album Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album of an artist who was a rookie. Many hit songs, including the hit songs Saving All My Love For You How Can I Tell You If That You Love Me as well as The Most Beautiful Love of All were released from the album, setting her up for a Beatles-beating seven consecutive US numbers one. The album's first US year the album had sold more than 3 million copies. Then it went on to be purchased by millions of people around the world, earning her her first Grammy. The follow-up album released in 1987 Whitney featuring the hit songs The Place Do Broken Hearts Go and I Wanna Dance With Somebody built upon her successes, but it was her 1992 movie The Bodyguard (1992) that made her one of the most successful artists in history. Although her performance in the film and its soundtrack were not appreciated however, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You as well as the accompanying album topped charts all over the world for several months. The same year, she married Bobby Brown who was a ex- New Edition singer. She was the sole daughter of Bobby and Bobbi Kristina Brown. They were married in March 1993.
